Acupressure

Acupressure

The ancient Chinese people believed that the body has pathways of energy, which are called ‘meridians.’ They also believed that the different ailments that we suffer from are caused by blockages in the meridians. Acupressure is the practice of moving energy through pressure, or touches to the body that will unblock the meridians and open certain gateways. Once the gateways are open, energy is allowed to flow through the body.

Skeptics say that the relief felt after acupressure sessions isn’t caused by gateways being opened, but is the result of muscle relaxation, improved circulation through the body, and the lack of stress promoted by many different types of massage. No matter what you believe, there’s no question that acupressure can improve the way you feel!

Uses of Acupressure

Below are a few of the benefits of acupressure:

  • Pain relief
  • Relaxation of tense muscles
  • Improved circulation
  • Relief of stress and anxiety
  • Elimination of nausea and vomiting
  • Treatment of motion sickness
  • Relief from headaches
  • Relief from back or neck pain
  • Addiction recovery

Clearly, there are a wide variety of benefits provided by acupressure. However, it is important to note that acupressure shouldn’t be considered as the primary treatment for any type of disease or serious illness. Additionally, we don’t recommend certain types of acupressure for pregnant women, as some points on the body can induce uterine contractions.
